It’s not as easy as you would imagine to sieve through constant beauty launches and find really special products that will last the distance. Some brands have one or two great products and in some, more rare cases, a brand has a wonderfully well-rounded and effective selection of products and Aurelia Probiotic Skincare, a fairly recently launched British skincare brand, certainly belongs to the latter category for me.
In a very short period of time since its launch, the brand and the products are already taking pride in the press spotlight and might I add, deservedly so. Aurelia Probiotic skincare was developed as the age preventative skincare line, fusing probiotic, repair and peptide technologies with 100% BioOrganic botanicals. Each product in the range aims to support your skin’s defence system with the immune mudulatory glycoproteins that generate targeted impulses within our skin. It aprotects the skin against visible sings of ageing, prevents cellular DNA damage, boosts collagen and hyaluronic acid levels and works on counteracting the damaging effects of UV on our skin.
There are five products in Aurelia skincare range at the moment and each one is suitable for every skin type, including sensitive:
Miracle Cleanser, 120 mls, £34
Revatalise & Glow Serum, 30 mls, £47
Cell Revatalise Day Moisturiser, 60 mls, £42
Cell Revatalise Night Moisturiser, 60 mls, £42
Cell Repair Night Oil, 50 mls, £45
Now, let me tell you about my own experience with each of the Aurelia skincare products:
Miracle cleanser: the first thing that stood out for me when I held the cleanser jar in my hand was its sophisticated dark glass & pretty pink and white labeling with a thin gold lining and its eucalyptus, bergamot and rosemary smell-herbally, a little medicinal yet so refreshing to the senses. You only need a little bit of the cleanser and it is a joy to massage it into your face, as it spreads easily and your fingers move soothingly over you skin, with no dragging. You massage it all over and then add a little bit of water and continue massaging it in, enjoying its soothing sensation on the skin. What is also very clever is that the cleanser comes with a bamboo cloth. Bamboo has very strong antibacterial properties and while the cloth might feel softer on your skin than a traditional muslin, this one is better for the reason mentioned above-and it is as effective in removing any traces of make-up, even from around the delicate eye area. A little of this product goes a long way and I absolutely love how it makes my skin look and feel-clean, soft and happy. It assists skin renewal process, leading to a brighter, more even complexion when used twice a day.
Revatalise & Glow Serum: this milky like serum sinks into your skin almost instantly- blink, and you won’t see it on your skin’s surface. It has a gentle fragrance of jasmine, tuberose, mandarin and plumeria and feels and smells very feminine. I always enjoy products within one range that not only have different purposes but also smell slightly differently from each other-after all, if your cream and serum smell the same, you might as well use one and not the other. I dispense two or three drops with the glass dropper on the tips of my fingers and spread it quickly all over my face, after I cleanse my face. Then I just enjoy the sensation of moisture and the smell, while I brush my teeth. My skin ends up feeling soft and even, as if protected by a magic veil. This serum contains baobab, which is not only rich in vitamin C but is a potent source of Omegas 3, 6, 9, as well as Kigelia Africana that helps to firm up the skin, Hibiscus to fight oxidising stresses away and Vitamin E that nourishes the skin.
Cell Revitalise Day Moisturiser : the texture of this cream is absolutely sublime-imagine firm, yet light whipped cream? Well, that’s the type of consistency that this cream has and it even feels a little springy too, like a soft energiser bunny. It smells similarly to the serum and enhances the sensory sensation when layered on, after the serum. In addition to the ingredients that a serum has, this moisturiser has Borage oil, which is mega rich in essential fatty acid GLA which helps skin cells to retain moisture and Mongongo oil that speeds up skin’s regeneration process that slows down with age ( it also contains high levels of natural Vitamin E ). If you pay attention to the developments and innovations in the beauty industry, you will know that ingredients hailing from Africa are becoming the heroes of modern European skincare and this moisturiser is a great case in point for that. It is also worth noting that this moisturiser acts as a lovely make-up primer, so you really don’t need to use one before you apply your make-up. A definite plus for women who want an effective skincare and beauty routine, without compromising on quality or the end result.
Cell Revitalise Night Moisturiser: this potent cream hydrates and soothes the skin, particularly when it looks dull. Within a few days I noticed a more radiant glow and my skin felt softer to the touch. It has a slightly thicker texture than the morning moisturiser and smells a little different too, which I greatly appreciate, as it makes me feel a difference between my morning and evening skincare routine ( it does sink in very quickly and doesn’t leave any residue on your pillow case ), helping my skin to regenerate more effectively ( with supercharged levels of probiotics and peptides ), as I sleep. This moisturiser also has a very calming fragrance ( including notes of Neroli, Lavender, Rose & Mandarin ) that helps to slow down my thoughts as I massage it in with the tips of my fingers, applying slight pressure and makes me fall asleep quicker, with a content smile on my face.
Cell Repair Night Oil: this light coloured oil smells of a flower meadow in the summer, evoking beautiful visions of sunshine and happiness, as you put a few drops with a dropper on the tips of your fingers and spread it all over your face. It sinks instantly and gets to work on boosting and repairing your skin on several levels. Kalahari Oil feeds the skin with essential fatty acids, thus improving volume and plumpness, Mongogo Oil restructures dermal layers and regenerates the epidermis, Kigelia Oil helps to improve firmness and skin tone, Baobab delivers Omega 3, 6, 9 and Hibiscus, which is known for its antioxidant properties, helps to fight free radicals and reduce oxidative stress.
On occasions when you feel that your skin needs a bit more care and nurture, you can add a couple of drops of face oil to your night moisturiser, or layer the oil followed by the night moisturiser, for a luxurious and effective moisture boost.
I think Aurelia Probiotic Skincare is a very special beauty brand that shows great potential and promise. It was developed with the deep knowledge of female skincare needs and taking into account the stresses and environmental factors that affect us on a daily basis. Add to that great packaging, from the beautifully stand out outer packaging to expensive looking dark stained glass bottles and jars. If you go to Aurelia website you can learn more about the founder, Claire Vero ( or you can read my Q & A with Claire below ), brand’s ethos and ingredients, as well as look at product video demonstrations, giving you useful tips and technique on the best way to use the products effectively. In my view, the best overall British skincare launch of the last couple of years and I wish the team continued success and inspiration in making women look beautiful.
Q & A with Claire Vero, founder of Aurelia Probiotic Skincare
GAP: How did your interest in beauty and cosmetics arise? Are you a beauty product addict or are you very selective about what you use on your skin?
CV: Apart from working closely with skincare at GSK, my interests arose from always having a passion for all things beauty. I always bought a lot of skincare when younger – whether I would finish the product or not, I was always interested to seek the latest launch on the market. As time went by, I refined my search by looking at ingredients, ethical backgrounds, supply chains. I really realised it was important to know how mineral oils and silicones can affect the skin.
GAP: Were you inspired by any existing beauty brand/brands while creating Aurelia Probiotic skincare?
CV: Nothing in particular, therefore I was able to find a niche – I always found it was either a natural or scientific option and I wanted something in the middle.
GAP: When & how the idea of Aurelia skincare came to life? How did you choose the name for your brand?
CV: Having chatted with friends over the years, they agreed there was a gap in the market for this brand. The name arose from working at GSK where we always had the challenge of finding names that translated well into the global market place. I also love it, as it’s a pretty, feminine name that means ‘golden’.
GAP: Do you have any retail stockists yet or do you only currently sell Aurelia products via the website?
CV: We have just launched with MyShowcase.com – an exciting new way to discover beauty, as well as also retailing on our own website, Aureliaskincare.com. We are also in talks with a global online site which is very exciting. I’m bursting to say!
GAP: How long did it take you to develop the products and who helped you with the formulations?
CV: I started to think about & develop Aurelia Probiotic Skincare in 2010. Having been in a position where I could talk to people about skincare issues, like dryness and ageing, and hear about the solutions that helped them day-to-day, it was clear to me that reducing inflammation within the skin and balancing its defence system is crucial to keeping it healthy and youthful. Actual formulations took place in 2012.
GAP: What makes Aurelia products different from any other skincare brand on the market?
CV: The answer to this lies in probiotics, they are the key ingredients in my high performance, results-driven line. Developed by a leading bio-tech, the probiotic technology and repair and peptide complexes in my products are an industry’s first for preventing ageing and achieving radiant skin.
GAP: What are your favourite Aurelia skincare products and why? What are your brand’s best-sellers?
CV: I am biased, I love them all ! If I had to choose one, it would be the Miracle Cleanser; it took a lot of time to ensure we created a rich, creamy cleanser that would not only remove makeup, but also promote a lovely calming effect when used. There are so many hero cleansers out there, it was a ‘big ask’ !
GAP: To whom would you recommend Aurelia skincare? Is your skincare particularly suited to any skin type or age-range?
CV: Within the launch range there are the everyday necessities women in their late 20s/early 30s will be used to using: a twice-daily cleanser, a day and a night moisturiser. We have also developed two products, to help give a boost to an age-prevention routine: a serum and a facial oil. In your 30s your skin often needs re-balancing, with surging hormones causing occasional eruptions. I believe the root cause of nearly all skin issues is UV and environmental stress which can lead to inflammation. Reducing inflammation within the skin layers is the absolute top priority in keeping the skin looking healthy and youthful. Balancing the skin’s defence system is also critical in achieving this. The result is a radiant and glowing complexion.
GAP: Do you prefer to use Aurelia moisturiser or oil?
CV: Depending on my skin’s needs at the time ( has my skin been exposed to lots of environmental aggressors i.e. cold weather) I may use the Cell Repair Night Oil in conjunction with the Cell Revitalise Night Moisturiser for a real hydration boost. I like to use both – whether together or own their own.
GAP: What are your plans when it comes to Aurelia skincare, looking into the future?
CV: We have lots of NPD plans; the priority is to add to our launch range so that women can indulge in Aurelia Probiotic Skincare for all of their skincare requirements.
GAP: What are the main ingredients in Aurelia skincare and why did you choose them?
CV: Probiotic technology and repair and peptide complexes in my products are an industry first for preventing ageing and achieving radiant skin.
The formulas also contain the finest BioOrganic botanicals, real skin goodies rich in antioxidants, essential fatty acids and vitamins.
I have a strict exclusion policy for synthetic fragrances, parabens, sulphates, TEA, DEA, propylene glycol, phthyalates, GMOs, mineral oils and silicone.

GAP: From your point of view, is British women’s approach to beauty and beauty product selection different, compared to European women?
CV: From both a European and British perspective both demand a tailored approach to beauty, which looks at their specific needs. There is a trend that women across Europe are looking for beauty products that are intensely personal and offer them something new, which is why there is a huge growth in smaller, more niche brands coming through that are really listening to these women and aiming to fulfil their needs. I see consumers taking control of their physical appearance and health, just as they manage the rest of their lives and therefore they are demanding much more from their skincare than ever before. More and more women are questioning the ingredients in their skincare products and are driven towards natural skincare, but will not to give up on performance. This is a trend that is really increasing and why the latest natural innovative skincare lines that comprise of both are going to do well. Aurelia Probiotic Skincare is one of these brands.
GAP: You don’t have a scrub in your range-is it something that you might add in the future?
CV: Yes, it is in early formulations and is looking fantastic, with the target of being used two to three times a week after our Miracle Cleanser. It will be a very gentle exfoliator because if the Miracle Cleanser and bamboo muslin are used daily this offers gentle exfoliation and dislodges dead skin cells.
GAP: Do your moisturisers contain SPF? If not, why did you choose not to include it as part of the formulation?
CV: We chose not to include an SPF into our moisturisers. SPFs can change the texture and feel of creams and we felt that we had such a clear direction for what we were looking to achieve from our moisturisers this would alter that -our Cell Revitalise Day Moisturiser has been designed to be the perfect make-up primer. We do believe sun care is essential and recommend factor 30 for the face all year round.
GAP: What drives you professionally?
CV: A sense of achievement in developing new and innovative products that women seem to love. Receiving emails from customers daily gives me an amazing feeling. I also love that I work in a team with very gifted individuals, where the politics sometimes found within corporate institutions just don’t exist, so our working days are both fun and rewarding.
