Bloomeffects, a Dutch beauty brand started by two friends passionate about sustainability and skincare, has its uniqueness and strength in efficacy of tulips. Recently two new products were added to its product family. One, called Tulip Dew Drops, for the face, another, Tulip Nectar Repair Balm, for the body. Each as unique as the colour gradient on each tulip petal, as well as efficacious for the skin problems you might be experiencing.
Bloomeffects Tulip Dew Drops, 30ml, £40
This surprisingly light-weight, water-based serum quickly absorbs into skin, while providing both hydration and protection against free-radicals and pollution. With only a couple of pumps this skincare formula, enriched with Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide), C, D & E and Squalane, helps to improve uneven skintone and texture, while delivering an instantly brighter, visible dewy glow.
According to Kim van Haaster, Bloomeffects co-founder & CEO, the company “developed Tulip Dew Drops as a medium-weight serum or lightweight moisturizer packed with a blend of vitamins to help strengthen and protect skin, while adding dewy glow to the skin all year round.” Having diligently used those drops for a month I can happily chime in and say that my skin thoroughly enjoyed the combination of my morning serum from another brand with this serum-moisturiser hybrid.

Those Dew Drops work well for normal, combination, oily, dry and sensitive skin and seem to address a multitude of problems. They sink in quickly, leaving behind no residue and whether used in conjunction with another serum or on its own provide the skin with the feeling of instant hydration and feeling of comfort. In fact I often just add some blusher or bronzing drops in the morning and do a school run or morning meetings, feeling perfectly happy to be in the skin I am in.
You can apply it to dry skin or after misting your face, if you use a face mist or tonic in the morning and Tulip Dew drops also can double up as a primer, adding subtle illumination to the skin or be mixed into your favourite foundation for “the perfect tinted moisturiser with added skincare benefits”.
When writing about this product I also want to mention how unflipantly beautiful the packaging is. From the environmentally-friendly recycled paper exterior packaging to the actual glass, pine-cone shaped bottle that looks very elegant and fits perfectly into the hand. On occasion I actually put it on my work desk and add a drop or two on top of my skin during the day. A product that gives overall pleasure – to the eyes with the packaging, to the skin with the formulation and to the mind, knowing that it is created by the brand that doesn’t just talk about environmental impact, but actually takes conscious steps to improve its footprint on the Earth.

As both Kim and Monica are now mothers as well, they made sure that their entire product line is safe for use by pregnant or nursing women. However, please do always consult with your doctor before introducing any new products into your skincare routine while pregnant or nursing. According to Kim, who is a mother to a gorgeous toddler girl, this body balm has been “a true skin savior during and after my pregnancy! I suffer from eczema prone, dry, flaky and extremely itchy skin and really saw the improvement in my skin barrier head to toe, thanks to our transformative balm! This balm first got my attention simply because of its yellow packaging – who doesn’t need a dose of daily sunshine on a bathroom shelf? When it arrived and I had a chance to smell and use it, I was only further charmed. I apply it on its own, if any parts of the body feel dry after a shower post workout, and thoroughly enjoy the sensation of the rich balm transforming into an oil and the skin drinking it in, as it sinks into it seamlessly.
Bloomeffects TOP TIP: store Tulip Nectar Skin Repair in a cool environment, away from heat or direct sunlight. The formula’s blend of nourishing oils and butters are ‘firmer’ at room temperature, but will melt in the heat as well, as when applied to the skin. If you feel it is starting to liquify, do refrigerate it for a few hours or overnight to solidify.
Head-to-Toe Skin “Salve-ation” uses are endless, but here are Bloomeffects team’s Top Ten favorites:
1. Body butter: Deeply nourish and hydrate skin
2. Hand healer: Soften dry hands and cuticles
3. Sole smoother: Treat dry, cracked heels and calluses
4. Elbow elixir: Smooth dry, rough skin
5. Skin soother: Calm sunburned, irritated, inflamed skin (tip: cool it down first!)
6. Belly balm: Moisturize, soothe and help prevent stretchmarks during pregnancy
7. Tresses tamer: Eliminate fly-away hairs
8. Brow beautifier: Shape and style eyebrows
9. Pout Protector: Rehydrate dry, chapped lips
10. Hydrating highlighter: impart a fresh, dewy glow on cheekbones
Another ‘charm’ of this body balm is that it has a very slight floral scent that almost disappears as it sinks into the skin and a little bit of it goes a long way, making it a smart multi-tasker. I also appreciate – as both a beauty journalist and consumer – that Bloomeffects is a beauty brand that doesn’t pretend to be perfect, yet constantly strives for improvement on all aspects of the business, taking into account both customer and retail feedback, as well as technological advances. With everything being said and consumers often rushing to judge or slam brands for even a small misstep, it helps to remember that it’s not at all easy to balance between commercial success – for which every business, big or small strives – and sustainable demands. When it comes to Bloomeffects, it is definitely a beauty brand to keep an eye on and to support, as it is equally consumer and environment driven.
