Fashion world never stand still and that is part of its allure. When brands that you like introduce new collections or pieces it is truly exciting, especially when you don’t know what to expect every time. As London was becoming colder and thoughts were turning to Christmas preparations, I went to Milli Millu boutique for a sneak preview of the brand’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection.
In addition to the existing favourites like The Milan, The Zurich ( I crave it in beautifully crafted burgundy leather, in case you are wondering Santa ! ) and The Bilbao in new colour combinations, there are new ‘kids’ on the bag block, namely The Montreal, The Helsinki, The Munich and The San Diego.
The Montreal is a cool bag with masses of character and distinct hardware, I very much like it in a combination of black leather and orange calf hair, while press editorial teams will probably favour it in black, grey and off white.
The Helsinki is a bag that will appeal to young women as well as forward thinking working mothers, doing school drop off in the morning. It is edgy and cool, whether worn over the shoulder or across the body. My eye was drawn to it in off white, grey and blue calf hair combination, as well as a snake print calf hair combination with off white and black. It might be even handy when you are dashing across the airport in a hurry – looking stylishly pulled together.
The Munich reminded me a little of the latest Fendi offering 2Jours tote collection fused together with the doctor’s bag design. It is roomy and substantial but with its feminine hardware touches it has the potential to become a modern classic that takes you from the office to a business trip or accompanies you on a weekend away.
It is quite striking in orange but in case you are a woman with more conservative tastes ( and I don’t mean your political preferences here ), then a burgundy and off white combination or black, taupe and off white are more likely to appeal to you.
The San Diego is not dissimilar to The Zurich but it has a more casual vibe. With a small front pocket for your phone or coin purse or lipstick and long handles it will easily become your faithful companion whether you drive or take the tube. For someone who isn’t huge on colour black, this one, possibly because of its beautiful leather texture really draws your eye.
What sets Milli Millu and Mireia Llusia-Lindh, the brand’s founder, apart from the niche fashion brand crowd is not just the quality of MM bags but the fact that there is a constant, open dialogue with the customers, as well as the press buyers, and their feedback is taken on board, whether it’s the issue of detailing or a specific colour combination. From now on Milli Millu will also be working with a charity close to Mireia’s heart, called SOS Children’s Village, which aims to help children who have no parents to take care of them, through community based programmes or by providing a child with home, medical care and education in a SOS Children’s Village.
