I first discovered QMS Medicosmetics in 2012 when I had the pleasure of spending time with brand’s founder Dr Erich Schulte during one of his visits to London. An attractive, articulate, funny and passionate man, Dr Schulte saw it as his personal mission to help women and men age gracefully through the decades. By ‘marrying’ skincare and science he created effective skincare that wasn’t about clever marketing, but rather scientifically researched and tested on the multiple patients he treated in a clinical setting for burns.
Dr Schulte was one of the first cosmetic surgeons to enter the beauty marketplace and to talk about effect of gravity on the skin ( “it works against us from the moment we are born” ), molecular science and Hyaluronic acid in skincare. Spurred on by his business-minded wife and the team he thoroughly enjoyed working with, the brand made its mark in Europe, UK and South Africa, but somehow an active beauty became a sleepy one over time.
Fast forward to 2021 and brand’s new CEO Mark Stanlein came to London in October to share his plans and vision for the brand. Mark joined QMS Medicosmetics in 2020and his determination to take the brand to new heights is clearly felt and articulated. With extensive experience in luxury beauty industry Mark is not only focussed on strategy and targets, he uses and tests the products himself and is as knowledgable about them, as the members of his team. Something that is quite rare still – men hold high positions in beauty, yet often are quite awkward about sharing which products they use and why. Mark is as attractive, as he is confident that in order to sell the products, he needs to have an open dialogue not only with his extensive team around the world, but with the consumers as well, in order to understand what they need, want and what works (or doesn’t) for them.
Even though Dr. Schulte has now retired from his surgical practise and taken a back seat at QMS Medicosmetics, brand’s slogan “Science NOT Miracles” clearly eludes to his founding spirit and approach to skin and bodycare. This will undoubtedly resonate with the consumers who are smart and who question marketing slogans with which brands try to sell their products nowadays. Mark and his team are firmly focussed on innovation, consumers, scientific research, efficacy and education – vital ingredients in order for any brand to succeed in a very busy marketplace where too many brands fight for customer attention.
I will spotlight some of my personal standout products from the brand in the coming weeks, as well as the newest launches, but for now and in the run up to the festive season I want to spotlight three for your particular attention right now.
QMS Medicosmetics Advanced Collagen Eye Lift ( eye sheet masks, four pairs per pack )
This Eye Sheet Mask is a triple collagen eye sheet that combines Collagen Fibres, Peptides and Pure Molecules with Hyaluronic Acid that visibly renew the delicate area underneath the eyes in just 20 minutes. Mask sheets give the under eye area a visible lift when it comes to wrinkles, crow’s feet and redness. A perfect beauty assistance for the morning after a night when you didn’t sleep particularly well, on a plane journey or before a festive party. It works for all skin types, including sensitive and addresses such concerns as dehydration and irritation as well.
This eye mask is made of pure collagen fibres, instead of bio-cellulose, silicone or other conventional materials and they were chosen because they are a ‘superior’ carrier and a compatible delivery system for both collagen peptides and molecules, as well as the hyaluronic acid solution.
Another thing worth mentioning is that rayon is used in lamination of the mask and paraffin is used for adherence of the top layer of the collagen layer. None of these materials come in contact with the skin, as they are positioned only of the reverse of the mask. It is something to be aware of ( and clearly stated in the accompanying instruction sheet). It’s also something for the brand to consider going forward, within a context of environmental impact and sustainability. No one has all the answers at the moment and while there are concerns and pushback against single use face or eye masks, one has to have credible alternatives that would deliver results for the skin, while minimising the negative impact on the planet.
QMS Medicosmetics Epigen Defense Mist
Epigen Defense Mist is one of brand’s innovative launches. It is a protective and moisturising tonic for all skin types that safeguards the skin from the negative environmental effect with the combination of epigen peptide and panthenol, which accelerate the process of regeneration of the epidermis and help to make the appearance of the complexion more even. It also activates production of Vitamin D receptors in the skin. A patented active ingredient complex that includes beetroot extract and fructooligosacchirides helps to not only absorb, but store solar vitamin, while hydrating and calming the skin at the same time. What it means is that that this face mist helps to activate production of Vitamin D receptor, which can then be converted into its more active form more quickly. Something particularly important in the darker months of the year, when we aren’t exposing our skin to natural sun light and thus end up running low on Vitamin D, which among other things is vital for our immunity function.
QMS Medicosmetics Collagen Concentrate 7-Day System 7 x 3ml mini bottles
A revitalising collagen treatment concentrate in miniature bottles that constitutes a one week course. Something that some luxury brands are keen to offer to their customers in-between treatments that they also provide. This particular set for the face (and neck, as it’s one of our first body parts to start showing signs of age) helps to give the skin an intense boost of hydration that makes the skin appear plumper and more even. You can also expect to see a subtle improvement in your fine lines depth, as well as the appearance of the skin that in my case felt and looked my glowing and energised – no mean feast when radiators turn on, the weather becomes colder and body’s natural energy takes a dip, letting you know it’s time to slow down and hibernate. Well, not exactly, as like bears we can’t dig deep into a cave and sleep till spring’s arrival, but you know what I mean!
Highly concentrated QMS Neotec A15 Collagen-Hyaluronic Acid complex is combined with innovative Matrixyl Synthe 6 and caffeine that together intensely moisturise the skin and visibly plump it up after seven days. With the velvety texture of this product, it helps to bring a busy day to an end in an indulgent way, so you wake up to the skin that looks more rested. I would also recommend this system if you are recovering from a cold, flu or Covid and your skin looks as tired, as your body. In this instance the skin most definitely will get the external support, while you focus on nurturing the body from inside out with food, rest and supplements.
