ONDA Beauty is a green beauty retailer that was founded in the US by three girlfriends, Larissa Thomson, Sarah Bryden-Brown & Naomi Watts. Having opened the original store in NY’s Tribeca, they followed it up with one in Sag Harbor and one in Sydney, thus honouring their roots. Their fourth store opened last week in London’s Notting Hill.
Located at 187 Westbourne Grove, the interior feels both welcoming and calm. Dreamed up by Naomi and her mother Miv Watts, it combines calm muted paint colours with natural wood. With lots of light streaming through floor-to-ceiling windows, green plants, gorgeous wallpaper, fresh flowers and wide open shelving, the store beckons you in and holds you in a warm embrace.
Inside you will find a retail space on the ground floor and a treatment room in the basement. For now you can find the ‘old’ beauty favourites like the Beauty Chef probiotic supplements, fairly new to the UK Tennen Studio & Leahlani, as well as African Botanics, Dr. Alkaitis, Odacite, UMA Oils, May Lindstrom, the Grown Alchemist, Josh Rosebrook, Joanna Vargas, haircare brand Reverie and Innersense Organic Beauty. You will also find a much cherished British aromatherapy brand De Mamiel and relative newbie to the green beauty marketplace Guy Morgan Apothecary, which has been winning over both retailers and customers in the last year.
They also carry some of Dr. Barbara Sturm products (this brand has been gathering momentum and seems to be on the lips and faces of many beauty editors & influencers), as well as fashion designer Francisco Costa venture into beauty Costa Brazil and oral hygiene brand new to the UK OLAS Oral Care. Another brand that drew my eye and I think ONDA is the first beauty retailer to carry it in the UK is Kate Macleod. Her body stones ( “Daily” and “Mama” ) look like gorgeous handmade soaps but are in fact solid, cocoa butter based moisturisers, shaped like a stone. They come lovingly wrapped up in a cloth that in turn is housed in a beautiful bamboo box that you can use for keeping trinkets, jewellery or love letters when the stone has served its nurturing purpose all over your body. A lovely staff member told me hers lasted a couple of months, after which she put the tiny leftover into her bath for an extra pampering bath soak).
Staff is on hand to answer any questions about brands or products ( the two female staff members that I met today were warmly welcoming and both had beautiful skin – something that drew my admiring glances and a put a question into my mind that I will certainly ask them both next time I visit the store – what products they love using on their respective skins).
As skincare regulation and conformity is tighter controlled by the EU than in the US, some beauty brands that ONDA Beauty carries in the US are taking longer to be approved for sale in the London store, so do keep an eye on the new additions yet to come. This is just the initial selection with much more to come on the store’s shelves.
Another no less important aspect of the services that ONDA Beauty provides are their signature face and body treatments. For now there are various facials on offer, with body treatments to come, as UK practitioners are hired and international practitioners much loved by existing ONDA clientele fly to London for their residencies. You can book treatments in-store, online or via phone.
Welcome to London ONDA Beauty, you arrived in interesting times and I hope you are here to stay, expanding your international green beauty narrative.
