This book has been eluding me since it was published last October, as first of all, it was available only on Amazon’s US site but they didn’t ship to the UK, then it was only available from a third party seller and I placed an order, for it to be cancelled as the seller didn’t have any stock left. Finally, third time lucky, the book arrived and I have spent a good part of a rainy Saturday crouched over it, marvelling at the familiar faces and the changes that have been taking place since magazine’s inception.
Vogue magazine was first published in 1892 and it had illustrated covers to start with, before photographic ones replaced them. The book itself covers a period of over 100 years and is divided into decades, thus giving you a full picture of the fashion, art and photography and if you are old enough, it will lift give rise to a slight nostalgia, yet you also see how things evolve and come back into fashion, slightly adjusted to modern views and trends. And one thing is very much in evidence-if you have style, it doesn’t matter where or when you live-you will stand out from the crowd for all the right reasons, and if you are only finding your fashionable footing, this might be your great treasure trove of ideas to try.
